Bringing the house down

A while ago I posted some pictures of a deserted house on the road into Ely. Just look at it now.

Oh, I always think it's kind of sad to see the insides of a house like that. It's naked, all that wallpaper and internal decoration that someone must have put up quite lovingly, never dreaming it would be exposed to the world. It's as if it is being undressed.

It is sad. A memento mori on the approach road to Ely really sets one up for the day.
It does remind me of the Rachel Whiteread 'House'(winner of the 1993 Turner Prize, though at least her house was voluntarily exposed to the masses.

I agree with Clare, it is very sad to see these old house slide into history and with so little dignity too. I look forward to seeing your pictures of what replaces it.

This house will live forever because of you and your photography, Jeremy. The only sad thing is that lovely arched doorway. Those are special, because they take talent and skill. Thanks for not missing the day. Forgot my camera Wednesday, unable to get shots of the demolition in town, making way for the new by-pass. Does this bring to mind the transplanting of a cemetery?

I adore old homes, and must agree with everyone else's comments - it creates a sense of sadness seeing such a wonderful old house being torn down.

Oh wow....I remember you posting it before. Too bad someone didn`t come along and fix it up instead.

they are demolishing it??? that is disgraceful and as you say - terribly sad. I guess they will replace it with a modern day monstrosity - I often wonder if modern houses will last like the old ones did.
I hate progress!

Hey Jes - nice pics. Made any pots lately? Love the polar bear toast from December - that is so you!

Thanks for your comments.
Annie, I will definitely post pictures when something is built.
Biene. A cemetery?!
Kim- It is sad, but it was literaly a broken home.
T&M- It would have been nice. Hopefully something great will replace it.
Robyn-I don't know about modern houses. That landis very soft and water-logged, so if it's the right design it may just last onger than this old one. We will see.
Paul. Glad you liked the toast. The pots will come!
